Asia has some exotic tourist spots. One such hot and happening destination in India is Goa. Goa is a beach paradise with lovely serene beaches cordoned by huge palm trees..
A haven for tourists, Goa offers water sports, mouth-watering seafood, great hotels and beautiful picturesque locales. It has much more to it than sun, white sand beaches and relishing food. The lifestyle this place offers is an ideal mix of western culture and Indian values. Many foreigners love to have extended vacations here and some have even transformed this place into their second home.
Places to visit
Goa is mainly divided into three parts:
Goa: This part of Goa is known for its commercial beaches like Baga beach, Anjuna beach, and Calangute beach. Calangute beach is undoubtedly the most popular and most crowded beach in North Goa. European travelers love to throng this beach. Baga beach although commercialized is more clean and quiet. North Goa has better facilities, good eating joints suiting more to western or US taste buds. You will feel at home with so many European and American faces all around. Aguada Fort is also a nice spot for having a great view of sea from the top of the fort. The beach side shacks come alive in the night with people partying, having candle light dinners and enjoying fireworks.
South Goa: South Goa beaches are really beautiful but are very quiet like Miramar, Palolem beach. Colva beach is a typical Indian beach thronged mainly by Indians as opposed to other beaches. South Goa beaches are meant for those who want a break from the noisy city life. You won’t find much of the partying or nightlife at these beaches. Although this part of the city is sleepier and more relaxed yet it depends on how you want to spend your vacation.
Old Goa: Old Goa is famous for its colonial architecture, backwaters and beautiful churches. The famous old Goa church has a 400-year-old mummy preserved and well protected. You can visit this part of Goa but it is not advisable to stay here as this place is away from beaches and has more traditional culture
Accommodation
You can find accommodation ranging from deluxe, luxury hotels to budget places. There are bed and breakfast schemes introduced by Government with the help of locals. Goa is expensive in terms of food and hotels as compared to other parts of India but yes it is affordable when it comes to our currency.
Food
Goa offers a complete feast for taste buds with every kind of cuisine ranging from Asian, continental, to Chinese food finding a strong foothold. Goan cuisine specially the Goan fish curry is delectable and worth giving a try. The beachside shacks as well as the restaurants around the place have a very lively environment and offer almost all kinds of cuisines.
The peak season to visit Goa is October to March. You should avoid monsoons i.e. the period from June to August. Language is not a problem as this has been a preferred foreign tourist destination for decades now. Bikes and cars are easily available on the daily and monthly rental basis for you to commute around. There are ample open spaces, well built roads and a fine infrastructure. Goa fits the perfect tourist profile to the hilt and is an ideal travel destination. This is an Indian oasis and you would not want to miss out on this amazingly beautiful city of beaches.
